About the Event

In partnership with the U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur, we at Me.reka together with sister company Biji-biji Initiative launch Malaysia’s inaugural YSEALI (Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative) Boot Camp.

This program is a nationwide impact initiative seeking to match innovative solutions to local challenges. 4 core challenge areas have been identified, namely: sustainable development, education, civic engagement, and social entrepreneurship. Interested participants will get the chance to bring their community’s issues to light and leverage on resources available via this boot camp to catalyse real change in the real world.

Organisers Me.reka will be travelling to 8 different states (Selangor, Sarawak, Sabah, Johor, Penang, Terengganu, Kelantan, and Kedah) to run a 2-day boot camp where participants will get the opportunity to network with local heroes and non-governmental organizations in their field of interest and pick up leadership skills along the way, via the design thinking approach.

The boot camp will take place across the country on the following weekends:

Selangor: 2-3 March @ University of Malaya
Sarawak: 9-10 March @ Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS)
Sabah: 16-17 March @ Universiti Malaysia Sabah
Johor: 30-31 March @ Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)
Penang: 6-7 April @ Universiti Sains Malaysia
Terengganu: 20-21 April @ UMT – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu
Kelantan: 27-28 April @ Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (Rasmi)
Kedah: 3-4 May @ Universiti Utara Malaysia (Official FB)

Limited to 50 participants per state, they will be presented with a real-life challenge to solve. A total of 16 finalists will then be selected to bring their ideas to life at the grand finale in Kuala Lumpur on 28-29 September 2019. To assist in the implementation, up to RM32,000 of cash grants will be given out, plus a 3-month mentorship with a non-governmental organization.

Registrations are now open for both YSEALI members (interested individuals can also sign up to be a member first!) and non-governmental organizations: http://bit.ly/2RjUuXF
